Intellectual and Academic assessments

Assessment for intellectual ability

Suitable for age 6 and above.

A comprehensive assessment of cognitive functioning. Used to identify areas of cognitive strength and weakness, as well as overall intellectual ability.

Cost: $2300 (excluding GST) – 3 assessment sessions and a detailed report.

1st session – Initial clinical interview (50 mins – telehealth or in person)

  • Background history taking to determine relevant factors related to the validity of assessment tools, and to understand the context of present-day functioning


2nd session – Cognitive assessment (120 mins – in person)

  • A cognitive assessment using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V) or the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV) to identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and overall ability.


3rd session – Feedback session (50 mins – telehealth or in person)

  • The psychologist will prepare a comprehensive report including your overall intellectual functioning, areas of strength and weakness in cognitive domains, and personalised strategies as relevant to your needs.
  • In the feedback session, the psychologist will talk you through the report, explain the outcomes of assessment, and discuss any other relevant supports.

Assessment of learning difficulties

Suitable for individuals aged 6 and above.

A comprehensive assessment of learning needs across reading, writing, and mathematics. Helps with identifying learning problems such as dyslexia, dysgraphia or dyscalculia.Can also help with identifying intellectual giftedness.

Cost: $3000 (excluding GST) – 4 assessment sessions and a detailed report.

  • A structured diagnostic interview to determine whether symptoms meet the diagnostic criteria for specific learning disorders.
  • Background history taking to determine other or concurrent causes of learning problems.
  • Self-report and observer (teacher / parent / partner) questionnaires to obtain collateral sources of information to support diagnoses.


2nd session – Cognitive assessment (120 mins – in person)

  • A cognitive assessment using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V) or the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV) to identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses and inform intervention strategies.


3rd session – Learning assessment (120 mins – in person)

  • A learning assessment using the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III) to identify learning strengths and deficits.


4th session – Feedback session (50 mins – telehealth or in person)

  • The psychologist will prepare a comprehensive report including whether you meet diagnostic criteria for a specific learning disorder, other possible reasons for your difficulties, areas of strength and weakness in cognitive and learning domains, and personalised strategies to improve symptoms.
  • In the feedback session, the psychologist will talk you through the report, explain the outcomes of assessment, and discuss treatment or support options.

Assessment for giftedness

Suitable for individuals aged 6 and above.

A comprehensive assessment of academic abilities to assess for intellectual giftedness.

Cost: $3000 (excluding GST) – 4 sessions and a detailed report.

This assessment follows the same process as the Academic Assessment for Learning Disorders.

Assessment for intellectual disability
(suitable for NDIS referral)

Suitable for age 6 and above.

A comprehensive assessment of cognitive functioning and adaptive behaviour using NDIS-recognised tools. Used to identify intellectual disability. Includes NDIS-compliant diagnostic report for referral to the NDIS.

Cost: $2600 (excluding GST) – 3 assessment sessions and a detailed report.

1st session – Initial clinical interview (50 mins – telehealth or in person)

  • A structured diagnostic interview to determine whether client’s presenting issues meet the diagnostic criteria for intellectual disability.
  • Background history taking to determine other or concurrent causes of developmental delay
  • Self-report and observer (teacher / parent / partner) questionnaires to obtain collateral sources of information to support diagnoses, including adaptive behaviour functioning questionnaires to assess areas of support.

2nd session – Cognitive assessment (120 mins – in person)

  • A cognitive assessment using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V) or the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV) to identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses and inform intervention strategies.

  • A learning assessment using the Wechsler Memory Scale Fourth Edition (WMS-IV) to identify memory strengths and deficits.

  • The psychologist will prepare a comprehensive report including possible reasons for your difficulties, areas of strength and weakness in cognitive and learning domains, and personalised strategies to improve symptoms.
  • In the feedback session, the psychologist will talk you through the report, explain the outcomes of assessment, and discuss treatment or support options.
