Focus on underlying feelings, motivations, and life experiences that sit at the heart of your suffering and symptoms, so you can uncover your vitality, re-discover hope, and live with greater freedom & purpose.

Our clinicians are experienced at using ISTDP and other emotion-focused psychodynamic approaches to free adults from behavioural patterns and habits, and to address the root issues contributing to symptoms like anxiety, depression, chronic pain, other chronic health conditions, recurring relationship problems, emotional regulation concerns, and loneliness.

Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy

Developed by Dr. Habib Davanloo in the 1960s, Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) is a dynamic and intensive psychotherapeutic technique that focuses on addressing deep-seated emotional issues in a relatively short period. ISTDP can help people reconnect to forgotten emotions that might lie buried underneath symptoms of anxiety, depression, shame, and physical pain. By re-connecting to these emotions, the restrictive and damaging symptoms of anxiety and depression (and other mental health and relationship challenges) can be resolved deeply. This means that change is lasting over time.

ISTDP is evidence-based and has been shown to be an effective treatment for adults across the age range. Our clinical psychologists undertake ongoing trainings and supervision in this area, and are members of the International Experiential Dynamic Therapies Association (IEDTA).

Listen to our podcast on ISTDP & psychodynamic work

Our clinical psychologist, Aspasia, speaks with Johannes Kieding – an experienced ISTDP therapist, teacher, and trainer – in episode 17 of our free podcast. They discuss psychodynamic therapy and ISTDP’s focus on emotions, the conflicts inherent in human life, and how the unconscious might play a part in all of this. Johannes explains core principles of ISTDP such as the Triangle of Conflict, what to expect in ISTDP therapy, and how ISTDP differs from other therapeutic models like CBT. They also discuss emotional development, complex mixed feelings, new ways of thinking about anxiety, and practical insights for parents on emotional management and attachment trauma.

It’s a longer-than-usual episode packed with information for anyone who wants to understand psychodynamic therapy and ISTDP. Click the button below to listen for free, or find the episode on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or our Youtube channel.
